SUMMARY:2019 Health and Regenerative Medicine Hackathon
DESCRIPTION:After a very successful first event at UVic last year\, we are making our 2nd annual Hackathon even bigger! With a cross-campus Hackathon happening between UVic and UBC! \n🧬 What is a Hackathon? 🧬 \nA ‘traditional’ hackathon is an event where programmers get together for a short period of time to collaborate on a project. Typically\, participants have 24-48 hours to consecutively work on the challenge with the goal of delivering a completed product/project at the end of that time period. \n🔬 BUT 🔬\nThis is not your typical Hackathon! FIRST: you do not need a background in coding or computer science to solve our problems\, SECOND: you have a 2-3 week lead in period before the hackathon weekend to have access to mentors and infrastructures to aid you in your design\, and THIRD: the health industry is largely multidisciplinary\, so participants of this Hackathon can come from medicine\, engineering\, biology\, you name it! \nOn September 12th we kicked things off at UBC at the BRC. We presented this year’s challenges to eager students who will have until the hacking weekend to recruit friends\, think about their challenges\, approach mentors\, and have access to the infrastructure required to work on their challenge designs! If you weren’t there\, don’t worry: Sign up today and get access to our SLACK channel to connect with a team and receive daily updates! 👯‍♀️ \nOn October 4th starting at 6PM we’ll start our 24 hour push at the Biomedical Research Centre Rm 351 (or Fort Tectoria at UVIC)\, where teams will get together and put all these resources to use!
