Keith is a Senior Scientist and Director of the internationally recognized Terry Fox Laboratory (TFL) at the British Columbia Cancer Agency (BCCA) and has a cross-appointment at the Department of Medical Genetics at University of British Columbia. He began his career in medicine at the Ontario Cancer Institute in the 1970s, where he became interested in stem cell biology. He completed his postdoctoral studies at the National Institutes of Health in Washington.

His research focuses on understanding the genetic determinants of normal and leukemic hematopoietic stem cell properties and in the development of methods to genetically modify or alter the properties of hematopoietic stem cells for gene therapy and transplantation based therapy.  By harnessing the self-renewal properties of normal stem cells, Keith and his colleagues hope to stimulate the production of more healthy cells and suppress leukemic growth.
